Celestial Bodies at the Rialto Fishmarket
Field recording from the Rialto Fishmarket, one of the oldest markets in Venice. Captured during the bustling morning, amidst the lively crowd. This track seamlessly blends with an evening recording from the same day. Accompanied by friends, we harmonized with the celestial music, drawing inspiration from the notations of the planets within the sun’s orbit and stars. Rooted in historical research, particularly influenced by Boetius.
Embark on a sonic journey through the celestial realms with a 24-minute harmonization of the planets, a condensed version of a 24-hour track mirroring the Earth’s rotation around the Sun and extends to the simulation of other planets, each rotating at its unique speed.
The reference to Shakespeare’s „Merchant of Venice“ adds another layer, echoing the concept of the music of the spheres:
„Sit, Jessica. Look how the floor of heaven
Is thick inlaid with patines of bright gold:
There’s not the smallest orb which thou behold’st
But in his motion like an angel sings,
Still quiring to the young-eyed cherubins;
Such harmony is in immortal souls;
But whilst this muddy vesture of decay
Doth grossly close it in, we cannot hear it.“
This project marks the culmination of my residency at Emily Harvey Foundation. The blended recordings are utilized in a quadrophonic sound installation showcased at the „🌬Storm and Stars: The Category of Sublime and the Climate Crisis“ exhibition at Entrance Gallery Prague on 11/23.
